The Paris Climate deal means nations must set national targets for reducing their carbon footprints. In turn, individual businesses need to support the national target by setting their own emission reduction targets

As part of our Act On 7 campaign, we want to help sustainability heads and environmental managers reduce the carbon footprint of their businesses simply and effectively.

So here are our 7 tips to better managing your carbon emissions reductions:

1. Be clear about your what you are aiming for – a well-defined strategy for your carbon footprint plan will make all the difference

2. Be realistic in your ambitions –  if your list of carbon reduction actions is unwieldy, your programme will struggle to get off the ground

3. Plan your budget – consider mechanisms such as budgeting for initiatives in annual budgets and having decentralised budgets for sustainability

4. Focus on the tools at your disposal – what expertise do you already have and what can you bring in?

5. Get help from colleagues – engage sustainability champions to help you deliver carbon footprint savings

6. Talk about your progress – effective communication will help employees understand how their work can contribute to a reduced carbon footprint

7 Review and monitor – monitor whether your actions are working and adding value to your business. If they are not make changes and review regularly.
