Decade of Action | The Planet Mark

is ours to create

As we see our way out of the health crisis, we remain in a number of social crises and a deep climate emergency. The health crisis has made clear how interconnected the world is, and its associated repercussions shone a light on the domino effect that is activated when one element in this interconnected system is damaged. This crisis teaches us that we can’t go it alone in trying to solve difficult problems. It calls on all of us to come together with compassion and humility. The world is primed for transformation and we have an extraordinary opportunity to build a better way of living.

2020 to 2030 will be the most important 10 years for us and our planet. It is considered to be the most important period for tackling the climate emergency and biodiversity breakdown. If we take action now, we will do much to avert these unfolding crises and have a planet that is fit for us and our future generations.

“The climate emergency is a race we are losing, but it is a race we can win”

Antonio Guterres,
Secretary-General of the United Nations

Every day, we are reading about the damaging effects of the climate crisis around the globe. 2014 – 2019 were the warmest ever recorded in the 139 years that NOAA has tracked global heat. Now, there is half as much ice in the Arctic, rising sea-levels are causing extensive flooding and forests around the globe are catching fire with heart-breaking regularity.

Unless global greenhouse gas emissions fall by 7.6% each year between 2020 and 2030, the opportunity to get on track towards the 1.5°C temperature goal of the Paris Agreement will slip through our fingers.

The effects on our lives, businesses and society as a whole are mounting but this does not have to continue. We can halt climate change and we must.

“Humans are great problem solvers. We need to imagine a better future and work to create it”

Sir David Attenborough,

“You must take action. You must do the impossible. Because giving up can never ever be an option”

Greta Thunberg, Activist

Around the globe, climate change apathy has given way to an overwhelming attention. Nearly 70% of British people want urgent political action to tackle climate change and protect the natural environments. From children, to CEOs, there is a strong call for change – but we need to transform talk into action.

We established The Planet Mark to help individuals in organisations to drive measurable change and enjoy the process. It was about tapping into the passion and knowledge of people, inside every company who care about society and the environment and enabling them to help that company reduce its energy carbon, water, and waste and thereby tackle climate change.

You can be a part of the movement to create a thriving planet and a flourishing society. A smart and future-proofed business leaves a positive impact on every customer, employee, and their supply chain. As well as benefits to the world, this brings huge business benefit too.

This 10-year period to 2030 will determine our future. Together we can make it the most exciting period of action imaginable. And a time when, if people ask where you were when the climate debate became a national and international movement, you can say I stood up and I did my bit. In 2021, will your resolution make the world of difference? Join us in The Decade of Action.
