Essence has successfully achieved The Planet Mark, a sustainability certification issued by Planet First in partnership with the Eden Project.

Essence is the world’s largest independent buyer of digital media. The agency aims to make advertising more valuable to the world by optimising its real value and building connections between brands and consumers.

Working towards an annual carbon-footprint reduction target of 5%, Essence puts sustainability first and takes responsibility for the agency’s impact on the planet.

Matt Isaacs, Founder and Executive Chairman, says: “By achieving The Planet Mark we are demonstrating our commitment to ongoing and continuous improvement in reducing our impact on the fragile ecosystem that we all share as our home. We hope it will inspire others in our industry to take action to protect our planet for the future generations.”

Through The Planet Mark certification Essence is supporting the Eden Project, the UK’s leading sustainability education centre. Planet First gives ten per cent of all The Planet Mark certification fees towards the development of sustainability educational materials and workshops for school children and young people, as well as development training programmes, both offsite and at the Eden Project in Cornwall.

“As the future of communications becomes increasingly digital, this sector must consider its impact on the environment. Essence is leading the way by taking responsibility for its carbon footprint and working to reduce it year on year.”
