Business Cube, designers and managers of serviced office spaces for businesses in the UK, has achieved certification to The Planet Mark.
This is Business Cube’s first year of business carbon footprint reporting and certification to The Planet Mark. They first calculated the carbon footprint of their London head office for the year ending December 2019 and set a target to reduce emissions by 5% annually.
Business Cube’s total carbon footprint for the year ending December 2019 was 0.5 tCO2e and the relative carbon footprint was 0.07 tCO2e per employee.
Steve Malkin, Founder and CEO of The Planet Mark, commented: “The step Business Cube has taken by joining The Planet Mark will have a positive impact for so many people and businesses. A green office space helps not only the environment, but the health and productivity of the occupiers. As the benefits of sustainable office spaces continue to mount, companies are more likely to opt for sustainable, healthy spaces. Business Cube has made a smart decision by making a statement on their carbon emissions, and I commend the team’s vision and efforts to make their new sustainability policy a reality.”
In the decade of climate action, business must continue to act to cut carbon emissions. Global climate goals are tied inextricably to global prosperity, and businesses regularly monitoring their sustainable progress will be better prepared for changes on a global scale.
Business Cube has made several commitments to help become more sustainable as an enterprise. As well as their commitment to continuous reduction of carbon emissions, the company has committed to protecting one acre of rainforest in South America through the conservation charity Cool Earth. Business Cube has also made the commitment to endorse sustainable practice to their employees and network of stakeholders.
Office space providers and property managers must respond to the shifting client demands regarding sustainability. As businesses increasingly look towards their supply chains for evidence of sustainable practice, a positive policy for the planet can also become profitable. Office space can be a major emitter for many companies, so occupiers of buildings will be encouraged by positive progress in environmental measures from their property managers.
