Cubitts, an eyeglass manufacturer based in the UK, has achieved certification to The Planet Mark, and is the first eyeglass manufacturer to achieve the certification.
This is Cubitts’s first year of business carbon footprint reporting and certification to The Planet Mark. They first calculated the carbon footprint of their London office operations, including 10 shops and 1 factory, for the year ending March 2020 and set a target to reduce emissions by 5% annually.
Cubitts’ total carbon footprint for the year ending March 2020 was 253.7 tCO2e and the relative carbon footprint was 2.5 tCO2e per employee.
If Cubitts achieves their carbon reduction target, they will save the same amount of carbon that is absorbed by 16 acres of forest in one year.
Steve Malkin, Founder and CEO of The Planet Mark, commented: “It is a great pleasure to welcome Cubitts to The Planet Mark. As the first eyewear manufacturer to join The Planet Mark, Cubitts is making a statement about its commitment to sustainability. The team’s dedication is commendable, and it sends a message across the industry. Cubitts can establish itself as a pioneer in sustainability, and I look forward to helping them on that journey.”
Every year, countless frames and lenses end up broken and, rather than being repaired, are simply left to landfill. It is Cubitt’s belief that a more sustainable approach to consumption is needed. Cubitts’ Redux sustainability initiative helps create a path towards sustainability for the company, focusing on making frames that last, reducing impact upon the planet, and changing the whole industry for the better.
As consumers increasingly demand environmentally friendly products, B2C businesses must embrace sustainability to thrive in the modern world. From measuring and reducing its own impact on the environment, to engaging its supply chain and stakeholder network, a modern business can’t rely solely on quality products. It must also ensure those products haven’t caused undue harm to the planet. Targeted and scientific sustainability policies are the only way to accurately respond to the demands of the modern consumer.
