Eight Associates, an Environmental Consultant specialising in BREEAM Assessments, sustainability statements, renewable energy feasibility studies and energy modelling, has achieved certification to The Planet Mark.
This is Eight Associates’ 8th year of business carbon footprint reporting. Eight Associates’ total carbon footprint in the year ending December 2019 was 6.8 tCO2e, an increase of 35.2% from the year ending 2018. The company achieved a year on year reduction of 12.4% based on a 3 year average per turnover, also achieving a decrease of 3.4% on its carbon emissions per project also based on 3 year averages.
Eight Associates first calculated the carbon footprint of its London office operations for the year ending December 2012 and set a target to reduce emissions by 5% annually. This year’s footprint includes emissions from energy use in the building (purchased electricity) and business travel.
Steve Malkin, Founder and CEO of The Planet Mark, commented: “Eight Associates live and breathe sustainability, and it comes as no surprise that the team of dedicated environmental professionals have made such great progress in measuring and reducing their carbon over the years. From the excellent, award-winning work to the everyday life of the office, sustainability is at its best when it touches every part of a business, and Eight Associates has integrated its environmental know-how into its operations fantastically.”
Certification to The Planet Mark is based on the commitment to continuous improvement in sustainability in its business operations by measuring and reducing its carbon footprint and engaging its stakeholders.
Eight Associates are sustainability consultants with offices in London and Bristol. It has accredited London and Bristol BREEAM Consultants as well as a range of Sustainability Specialists to provide advice at planning, design and construction. The consultancy has been part of the team on a number of sustainability award-winning projects, including winning at the 2018 BREEAM Awards and as a finalist in the 2016 and 2017 Edie Sustainability Leaders Awards, and the 2017 Business Green Leaders Awards.
It is imperative for companies working in the sustainability industry to demonstrate their own environmental credentials. As businesses push to become more sophisticated in their efforts to reduce their environmental impact, they will begin to look to their supply chains for low-carbon suppliers. Sustainability consultants have a dual motivation in carbon measurement, as they also need to evidence their enthusiasm for, and ability to act upon, climate change.
