Offices still have a long way to go to improve corporate social responsibility (CSR), according to the latest ‘how green is your office’ survey from the Office Coffee Company.

When it come to environmentally friendly actions, many office workers are doing the basics, such as switching off lights and recycling paper, cardboard and food and drink packaging, but more than 65% say they “could do more”.

Moreover, only 25% said they purchased from suppliers with green credentials, while only 27% claimed to be “doing everything” they could to be environmentally friendly.

“The research highlighted that recycling of food waste, particularly coffee grounds is particularly low in offices,” said Richard Doherty, managing director at Office Coffee Company.

The survey, which interviewed 500 workers in offices with 50 or more employees in London and the South West in April, also found that 60% of respondents felt it was “very important that my employer has positive green credentials”.

The Office Coffee Company, which is Planet Mark-certified, has taken an number of actions to green its supply chain including recently launching a partnership with bio-bean to recycle its coffee grounds for clients based in Greater London. bio-bean is the first company in the world to have industrialised the process of recycling waste coffee grounds into advanced biofuels.

Commenting on the research findings, Arthur Kay, bio-bean CEO said: “Like Richard, we are surprised that such a quick CSR win is overlooked. Coffee waste is especially high in energy-rich oil and every year hundreds of thousands of tons of coffee waste is produced in the London area alone. bio-bean has the potential to recycle 50,000 tonnes per year, one in ten cups of coffee drunk in the UK. “

The Office Coffee Company provides ethical, beverages and coffee machines for businesses. Its range of coffee triggers donations that supports rainforest charity and Planet Mark partner Cool Earth.
