Today, The Marketing Store announces that it has achieved certification to The Planet Mark, an internationally recognised sustainability certification. This is the Marketing Store’s first year of business carbon footprint reporting which saw it calculate the carbon footprint of its London, Leeds, Paris and Duisburg offices for the year ending December 2019 and set a target to reduce emissions by 5% annually.

The Marketing Store also measured its Social Value contributions for the year, in recognition of their contribution to society. The agency reported on 9 Social Value measures with the top three sources being employing local staff, providing meaningful work placements (paid internships) and apprenticeships.

First-year certification to The Planet Mark is based on the commitment to continuous improvement in sustainability in its business operations by measuring and reducing its carbon footprint and engaging its stakeholders.

As part of the commitment, The Marketing Store will continue to strive to implement an effective system to identify and eliminate potential hazards to the environment. It also takes the challenge to its supply chain. It expects its suppliers to take climate protection appropriately into account in their own operations by setting climate protection goals for themselves and achieving them or by making the most efficient use of resources and whenever possible use renewable or recyclable resources.

Pamela Stathaki, Head of Sustainability at The Marketing Store, commented:

“I am delighted that we have been recognised by The Planet Mark for the great work we have been doing to make The Marketing Store a more sustainable business. Sustainability is one of our key business priorities, so we have been striving hard to make sure our work has a measurable and positive impact on the climate. Our next steps are to take this global and keep innovating sustainable practices for not only us, but our clients too.”

Steve Malkin, Founder and CEO of The Planet Mark, said:

“We are so pleased to be welcoming The Marketing Store to The Planet Mark. The agency has tremendous potential to spread the positive practices put in place wide and far, and from the team’s dedicated work to this point, I feel confident this will happen. The engagement and enthusiasm to create positive change is palpable, and I look forward to this partnership blossoming in the future.”

The Planet Mark’s three-step process to certification:

  1. Measure – The Planet Mark certification team conducts a robust measurement of carbon across scopes 1, 2 and 3, compiling a report that complies with global protocols.
  2. Engage- Secondly, The Planet Mark helps engage staff to unlock their knowledge and drive passion for change.
  3. Communicate – The programme provides tools to communicate progress, influence others and build a positive brand.
