Steve Malkin, founder of The Planet Mark™, comments on the UK Plastics Pact – an industry-wide initiative which says it aims to transform packaging and reduce avoidable plastic waste.

This is both a pragmatic and exciting initiative. It’s pragmatic because the only way to eliminate single use plastic and unnecessary packaging is by bringing together all stakeholders. I believe that The UK Plastics Pact, under the stewardship of WRAP and supported by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, demonstrates genuine UK leadership.

It’s exciting because the Pact will release the innovation that will start to provide a solution to the plastic problem. Whilst the timescale and targets could be more stretching, I think they set up the possibility of meeting them ahead of schedule, both here in the UK and internationally. The potential impact is enormous and therefore fantastic news for sustainability as a whole.’

You can find out more about the Pact on the WRAP website.
