Head of Certification – Fixed Term Contract

Description: 

We are looking for an experienced sustainability professional, with experience in people and process management to lead our growing certification team, covering the maternity leave of our current Head of Certification.  You will be an authority in carbon footprinting with in depth working knowledge of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol corporate carbon accounting.  You will lead our certification team, be responsible for upholding our exceptional standards and overseeing the timely delivery of outstanding quality and robust certifications. 

The ideal candidate will be positive, enthusiastic, have a high attention to detail and a passion for numbers, sustainability and process efficiencies and excellent customer relationship skills.   

Key Responsibilities  

  • Manage the certification team, coordinating internal and external consultants to deliver work as scheduled and providing expert advice and leadership  
  • Regularly audit work of the certification team and analyse delivery data monthly reviewing against KPIs 
  • Manage software providers assist the team with software queries 
  • Consider and implement process improvements to the certification process as required 
  • Work with customers to provide expert advice and improve process 
  • Oversee collation and accuracy of cumulative data and manage data provision for annual Impact Report 
  • Work closely with the COO to advise on product development and improvements to the certification process 
  • Maintain active membership of IEMA and ICRSkeeping up to date with new methods and attending CPD courses in standards and policies in corporate carbon accounting and consider how these impact delivery of The Planet Mark 
  • Propose, draft and consult on updates to The Planet Mark Code of Practice annually, or as needed when new legislation or guidance is released and communicate updates to customer in collaboration with other teams 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience  

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in corporate sustainability and environmental management  
  • Experienced account manager, used to preparing proposals and projects for bespoke sustainability consulting 
  • Experience in carbon footprint accounting and knowledge of greenhouse gas reporting and standards e.g. GHG Protocol, ISO 14064  
  • Experience in audit/verifications of corporate carbon footprints using ISO 14064-3  
  • Strong mathematical and analytical background  
  • Excellent project management and organisational skills  
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Excel and excellent IT skills  

Preferred Skills & Experience  

  • Knowledge and experience working with SECR, social value, SDGs, scope 3 screening, carbon footprint verification    
  • Experience working with large, multinational companies, either in house or as consultancy  
  • Experience in sustainability engagement and communications   
  • Experience with sustainability software e.g. Sofi Salesforce  
  • Industry qualifications (e.g. IEMA)  

This is a full time position on fixed term contract to 31 December 2021. There may be the option to become permanent following this. Start date in November 2020 working remotely with weekly team meetings in central London expected to resume once Coronavirus restrictions have eased

Senior Sustainability Consultant – Built Environment Specialist

Our New Development Certification follows The Planet Mark 3-step process.  Each building is a stand-alone project in which we measure carbon reductions achieved through sustainable design and construction practices, engage stakeholders and supply chain to support and encourage innovation in the field, and communicate success.

Description:  

We are looking for a senior sustainability consultant with experience working in the built environment, and delivering whole life carbon analysis for buildings to join our growing certification team.  You will be responsible for managing and delivering our New Development Certifications building on a programme that has been running for 10 years.  You will be responsible for delivering lifecycle assessments and our new development certification along with engaging the supply chain, and providing expert advice on product improvements.  

The ideal candidate will be positive, enthusiastic, with excellent collaboration and customer relationship skills.  You will have at least 5 years experience in the built environment, and have delivered LCAs without support.   

Key Responsibilities 

  • Oversee the delivery of new development certification internally and externally (team and project management) 
  • Liaise with multiple stakeholders in the built environment sector to deliver new development certification 
  • Deliver workshops and engagement activities to design teams and sub-contractors, using expertise in built environment and sustainability 
  • Liaise with consultants to support / explain LCA delivery for the New Development Certification 
  • Deliver or support internal delivery of built environment LCAs for industrial, residential, and other sectors 
  • Keep up to date with national and global developments in the built environment and note relevance, overlaps and competition with the New development certification 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience 

  • Positive, “can-do” attitude  
  • Experience in delivering whole life carbon assessments for buildings, with working knowledge of standards EN 15878, WRI GHG Protocol, PAS 2050, PAS 2080, amongst others 
  • Minimum 2 years experience in delivering LCAs in the built environment  
  • Experience working with design-teams and other stakeholders in discussing, encouraging and promoting sustainable and low-carbon design in industrial, residential and other sectors.   
  • Experience in sustainability in the built environment, including knowledge of UKGBCs net zero carbon framework, RIBA, BREEAM  
  • Excellent organisational skills and high attention to detail 
  • A team player with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines  
  • Proven management skills, helping to support and train junior team members 
  • Excellent project management skills 

Preferred Skills & Experience 

  • Experience engaging or facilitating design teams in identifying more sustainable building designs, and innovations in construction.   
  • Working knowledge of the RICS NZC Construction minimum reporting template Delivery of post occupancy evaluations (POE) in the property or industrial sector 
  • Experience in sustainability engagement and communications  
  • Experience with sustainability software e.g. Sofi Salesforce, and familiarity with Microsoft 365 
  • Industry qualification (e.g. IEMA, UKGBC membership) 
  • Experience in corporate carbon accounting and in-depth knowledge of the GHG Protocol and ISO 14064, Scope 3 carbon reporting, SECR, SDGs and Social Value  
  • Experience in audit/verifications of corporate carbon footprints using ISO 14064-3 
  • Experience verifying LCAs 

This is a full time position, working remotely with weekly team meetings in central London expected to resume either late 2020 or early 2021

Engagement Manager

Description:  

We are looking for a confident, energetic, passionate and inspiring person to deliver the ‘Engage’ step of our programme, including certificate presentations, workshops and talks to holders of The Planet Mark. 

Successful applicants will have a wealth of experience delivering talks and workshops on business sustainability topics.   You will be delivering pre-booked certificate presentations, employee engagement workshops, supply chain workshops and green team training. 

You will show initiative in generating your own work-stream and also be able to identify customer needs and feed these into the sales or consulting teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver our engagement workshops both digitally and in-person (when circumstances allow)
  • Remain up to date with current sustainability news and developments so that you can refresh and update content regularly
  • Ensuring our members feel inspired and empowered to reduce their carbon footprint and increase social value and highlighting any additional services required
  • Deliver fortnightly webinars
  • Work closely with the Director of Digital and Community on engagement strategy and services development
  • Identify areas to improve engagement activities and work with other teams to develop these
  • Record outputs from engagement activities in our systems
  • Support relationships with our partners
  • Provide input to our consulting team in preparing engagement related proposals
  • Support chairing or technical support for external events on behalf of The Planet Mark

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Be infectiously enthusiastic, inspiring and passionate about sustainability and driving change
  • Proficient use of Word, Excel and PowerPoint, plus have the ability to quickly learn/adopt new technology
  • Experience in delivering workshops and presenting to large groups
  • Highly organised and process-driven
  • Able to quickly understand the products and services of the business and be willing to learn more about our market
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and demands, in a fast-paced environment
  • Great relationship builder, influencer and collaborator

Experience

  • At least two years experience in a similar role
  • Strong knowledge of digital platforms used for presenting and workshops
  • Excellent sustainability knowledge and a relevant qualification

Digital Project Manager

Overview:

We are looking for a driven, creative and organised candidate with a passion for digital tools and sustainability. The purpose of the Digital Project Manager role is to lead implementation of the company’s digital transformation programs and support the wider team with best practice use of the tools available. The role is full time, working for Planet First Limited, creator of The Planet Mark.

Description:  

You will be leading the delivery and implementation of The Planet Mark’s digital strategy and transformation programs as well as maintaining oversight of the various pieces of software that we use, and nurturing relationships with our IT-related third-party vendors.

Consequently, we’re looking for an adaptable person who is eager to learn and able to pick up and learn new software rapidly to work with experts on developing best-practice digital tools to meet the needs of our various teams. Our team works predominately remotely, so you must be a self-starter, capable of planning and managing multiple projects in tandem.

Skills and Experience:

  • A passion for sustainability and digital tools.
  • A highly organised and detail-oriented approach to work.
  • Able to work remotely, on own initiative with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent IT skills, particularly in being able to rapidly learn new platforms.
  • Strong project management skills, being able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and communicating with a wide range of stakeholders both internal and external effectively.
  • Strong communication skills to translate technical details into layman’s terms and vice versa.
  • Ability to successfully prioritise and work to deadlines, balancing conflicting demands and seeking support where needed.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office 365 applications, including SharePoint, Microsoft Teams and the Office Suite.
  • Experience managing third-party vendors who are supporting the delivery of critical digital projects.
  • Confident in showing initiative, but not afraid to ask for help when it is needed.

Desired:

  • Experience working with Dynamics 365 applications, including sales and marketing.
  • Experience working with and/or developing digital carbon emissions and social value measurement platforms.
  • Experience collaborating with technical experts to develop new software/platforms.

Qualifications:

A relevant degree or other qualification is preferred, but not essential.

Salary:

£35,000 – £40,000 depending upon experience.

Location:

Working remotely with weekly meetings in London (to resume in Spring 2021).
